Towards a more sustainable future with biobased vitrimeric resins.
BioVit develops vitrimeric resins from natural resources for the production of high-performance composite materials, offering sustainable solutions for industry.
Vitrimers combine the mechanical properties of thermoset polymers at low temperatures with the malleability of thermoplastic polymers at high temperatures, allowing not only their use in advanced applications, but also their reuse or recycling at the end of their useful life.
BioVit adapts the synthesis of vitrimeric resins to produce large batches suitable for the manufacture of composite material parts on an industrial scale. This adaptation ensures that the processability of the resin meets the requirements of various industrial production techniques, such as resin transfer molding (RTM), vacuum infusion and compression molding.
In addition, the coupons manufactured as a proof of concept are thermally and mechanically characterised to compare them with those produced with conventional epoxy resins, demonstrating their viability and competitiveness.
Coordinated by Eurecat through the Chemical Technology Unit, the project also has the participation of the Composite Materials Unit and the Valorisation Department.
