Identification, classification and catalogue of nature-based solutions in Spain that allow planning and maximizing benefits in the fight against climate change.
The Systematization of Nature-Based Solutions in Spain (E:SBN) project establishes a system for identifying, classifying and cataloguing Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) created in different types of ecosystems in Spain, from parks, green corridors, coastal restoration and wetlands or climate refuges, so that their planning and implementation, both in urban and rural environments, is carried out with a global perspective and in a coherent, effective and adapted way to each territorial reality within the framework of climate action.
To this end, the project carries out a bibliographic analysis of the state of the art of NBS at an international and national level of at least 100 scientific publications, identifying its principles, classification systems, key parameters and impact evaluation indicators.
Likewise, more than 50 SBN projects are compiled and characterized, analyzing in depth 15 of these representative projects of the different territories, of different types of threats and vulnerabilities to climate change as examples of good practices to understand their characteristics, the institutional reality and of perceptions regarding the deployment of the SBN and its facilitating elements.
The project contributes to decision-making for the implementation of the National Plan for Adaptation to Climate Change 2021-2030 (PNACC).
Eurecat participates in the E:SBN project through the Sustainability Area, specifically, through the Technological Unit of Climate Solutions and Ecosystem Services. The beneficiary entity is the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (ICTA-UAB).
