Serverless efficient computing in extremely diverse computing environments, from edge devices with limited resources to highly virtualised cloud platforms.
EDGELESS makes use of the “serverless” concept in all layers of the edge-cloud continuum to fully benefit from the diverse and decentralised computational resources available on-demand close to where data is produced or consumed.
In particular, the project achieves a efficient and transparent horizontal pooling of resources in edge nodes with constrained capabilities or specialised hardware, smoothly integrated with cloud resources.
This represents a giant leap forward compared to to state-of-the-art vertical offloading solutions where the edge is a mere supplement of the cloud.
Eurecat participates in the EDGELESS project through different Technological Units, in charge of different objectives:
- The Robotics and Automation Unit is launching a pilot in the case of using the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT). It focuses, in particular, on the agile production paradigm, which bringhs together autonomous robotics with IoT connected sensors and intelligent objects pervasively embedded in everyday manufacturing scenarios.
- The Applied Artificial Intelligence Unit contributes developing reference implementations of an orchestrator and different edge services by augmenting state-of-the-art open-source solutions with novel extended features.
The EDGELESS consortium is made up of 14 partners from six different European countries.
