Web portal to boost shift to rail in freight transport.
The ESEP4Freight project provides freight customers with an overview of the available rail freight services in Europe via a web platform.
This platform is built on an interactive map and makes it possible to identify the flows of goods with a higher potential for using the train as a mode of transport.
On this interactive map, the platform offers different modules, such as an external costs calculator (CO2 consumption, noise costs, congestion…), a schedule viewer offered by the main European operators, calculation of multimodal routes being the train the main mode of transport, templates and support tools for the contractual phase of transport operations, as well as a search engine for service companies related to the first and last mile.
In addition, ESEP4Freight aims to support the shift to rail by analysing the current contractual framework, proposing a set of recommendations for its updates and suggesting a set of harmonized and standardised models for transport agreements and contracts. The set of harmonised contracts is also the base for piloting a new set of blockchain-based specifications for simplifying transport agreements and contracts.
Eurecat participates in the ESEP4Freight project through its Applied Artificial Intelligence (AAI) Unit, which develops the web platform, and the IT&OT Security Unit, in charge of the e-CMR proof of concept and the example electronic contract with blockchain technology.
The ESEP4Freight consortium is coordinated by the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm and is made up of nine partners from five European countries.
