European Open Innovation Test Bed (OITB) driving competitiveness to the sheet metal forming industries.
The FormPlanet project responds to challenges of the sheet metal forming industry, optimizing the development, design, production and performance of high-strength metals while reducing production costs and time-to-market for sheet products.
FormPlanet, coordinated by Eurecat, is developing new material characterisation techniques and new modelling approaches to predict the performance of pieces and possible defects in an initial design state.
Apart from this, FormPlanet also offers innovative and transversal services related with the compliance with regulations, access, the traceability of material data and quality certification with the aim to supply an expert support for this sector industries.
Eurecat participates in the project through its Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit, who offers innovative characterisation methodologies to measure the fracture toughness and edge-cracking of sheet metals; the Modelling and Simulation Unit, responsible of the implementation in the simulation of elements with properties based on the mechanics of the fracture and the Product Development Unit, which develops a prototype through incremental sheet metal forming (ISF).
The project counts with a consortium formed by the research centres Eurecat, Fraunhofer IWU and COMTES FHT AS; two universities (the Lulea Tekniska Universitet and the Università di Pisa); the companies LETOMEC, Granta DESIGN, APPLUS – LGAI Technological Center, Centro Ricerche FIAT, ArcelorMittal, Arania, Estamp, Arcelik, ALUDIUM, AP&T, Lamera and, UNE as a standardization organism.
