Active fusion community in Catalonia including leader research institutions, universities and industrial partners.
The FusionCAT project aims to establish the technology transfer from the associated institutions with the industry to promote industrial competences in the Catalan field and achieve fusion energy. In this sense, FusionCAT paves the way to develop the technological capabilities required in the territory of Catalonia and prepare for this new energy era.
Nuclear fusion is one of the few technologies that currently has the potential to meet the need for sustainable, safe and low carbon energy sources, with reliable and predictable base load generation.
The FusionCAT group helps its partners and the entire industry involved to be more competitive at a technical level in the face of future calls for European fusion research programs and in this way, achieve specific plans to promote future joint activities between institutions and partners of the community.
Eurecat, through the Product Innovation and Development Unit and the Advanced Simulation Line, leads tasks focused on the design and optimisation of components of the nuclear fusion system, applying numerical simulation methods at multiple physical level such as the finite element method or computational fluid dynamics, as well as tasks aimed at the analysis and training of industrial partners to obtain possible future contracts and collaborations within the framework of nuclear fusion programs at an international level.
FusionCAT, which is made up of 11 R+D projects, counts with the participation of a consortium formed by 7 reference institutions in their respective fields at Catalan level: Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), the IQS University Centre of the Ramon Llull University (URV), the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the Barcelona Institute of Materials Science (ICMAB), the Energy Research Institute of Catalonia (IREC), the b_TEC Campus Diagonal-Besós Foundation (BTC) and Eurecat.
