The Catalan network of innovation in renewable hydrogen.
The H2CAT network reunites the major Catalan research groups who focus on the technological advancement of renewable hydrogen to support them in the process of valorizing and transferring research results to the social, productive and commercial environment of different application sectors.
The network consolidates a scientific-technological model to drive it towards innovation and scalability in its benchmark industries to position Catalonia as a world leader in renewable hydrogen, not only in the generation of knowledge and the development of solutions, but also in the creation of a transfer ecosystem between research and the productive, social and commercial environment in the field of renewable hydrogen.
This network is the key element for improving the competitiveness of the energy, industrial and transport sectors, among others, motivating the deployment of a low-emissions society and territory.
In order to address the future challenges presented by green hydrogen, the H2CAT network is structured in four major thematic areas in which the different hydrogen research groups specialize: production, storage and distribution, use as an energy source and use as raw material.
H2CAT contributes to achieving the European goal by 2050 in which 25% of energy passes through green hydrogen, whose role is key in the total of Catalan industries, representing 19% of the business fabric included for more than 100,000 companies.
The H2CAT network is an initiative coordinated by Eurecat through its Consultancy Department with the support of the Chemical Technology Unit, with the participation of other units of the center that work with renewable hydrogen.
Apart from Eurecat, H2CAT is led by the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research (ICIQ), the Catalan Institute of Chemical Research (IREC), the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and the Rovira i Virgili University (URV), in collaboration with other entities and institutions that are committed to sustainability and the potential of renewable hydrogen.
