Resilience 4.0 of infrastructures and crops against invasive species.
INVASOR-ES develops advanced technological solutions to combat invasive alien species (IAS) in hydraulic infrastructures, especially in irrigation systems.
These species, such as the zebra mussel, the apple snail and bryozoans, generate serious problems in infrastructures: obstructions, breakdowns, high maintenance costs and loss of agricultural productivity.
INVASOR-ES implements new technologies where the use of advanced monitoring sensors, combined with artificial vision and deep learning, will allow the precise and efficient identification and classification of different larvae of invasive species.
The main result of this project is the creation of monitoring stations based on artificial vision that detect IAS in larval and adult stages in real time through automatic sample collection and artificial vision (AI).
This disruptive technology will facilitate more efficient preventive control, reducing the dependence on traditional, expensive and environmentally harmful chemical treatments.
In addition, INVASOR-ES develops specific strategies for emerging IAS, which currently do not have efficient preventive methodologies. These solutions will be adapted to the particular needs of each infrastructure, integrating sustainable and environmentally friendly techniques, while reducing operating costs and minimising risks of economic impact.
Eurecat participates in the INVASOR-ES project through the Climate Solutions and Ecosystem Services Unit, responsible for providing its know-how on IAS, contributes to addressing the various challenges from a scientific perspective and the development of innovative technologies for the detection and control of IAS.
Moreover, the participation of CLIMSES ensures the prioritisation of sustainable and environmentally friendly IAS control methods that minimise the impact on biodiversity and affected ecosystems.
