Project Description

Innovative, competitive technology on an international scale that removes the main technological barriers to recycling urban, industrial and agricultural waste water so that it can be reused.

The REGIREU project aims to generate high-quality recycled water efficiently, effectively, sustainably and cheaply without posing health risks and to guarantee a level of quality that inspires trust among final users.

The project’s most significant results include innovative integrated membrane systems to clean the water and optimise running costs, highly energy-efficient electro-oxidation technology to treat water used to clean fruit, a hybrid MBR-MBBR system to recycle water, a decision support system in integrated membrane systems, and a high-efficiency system with smart manager to optimise the energy used in electro-oxidation technology.

The project, coordinated by Eurecat’s Sustainability Technological Unit, boasts participation from some of the leading research centres in the sector, including the University of Girona (through its LEQUIA research group), the Chemical Institute of Sarriá, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Leitat and Cetaqua, as well as the companies Hidroquimia, Biología y Filtración, Chemipol and TEQMA and water cycle management companies such as Aigües de Barcelona and Companyia d’Aigües de Sabadell (CASSA).
