Smart solutions for relief from Musculoskeletal Non-Communicable Diseases (MSK-NCDs).
SmILE develops smart solutions to reduce the impact of Musculoskeletal Non-Communicable Diseases (MSK-NCDs) in older people through prevention and early intervention, empowering patients to take charge of their health while alleviating the burden on healthcare systems.
The project creates a universal chip platform that can be integrated into a wide range of medical devices, turning them into active data generators and enabling faster and more accurate diagnoses while supporting the rollout of innovative treatments.
The collected data will be processed through an integrated patient-centred health platform, designed to meet the specific needs of elderly users. This platform, supported by artificial intelligence, will enable patients to access a comprehensive overview of their health status, receive tailored recommendations, and actively monitor their condition.
Eurecat participates in SmILE through its Functional Printing and Embedded Systems Unit, responsible for developing printed sensors for pH, temperature and acoustic monitoring, optimising their design and verifying their functionality in encapsulated and non-hermetic electronic systems.
In addition, the Unit dimensions and validates the wireless communication system, as well as the design and printing of the NFC antenna, and also develops flexible substrate layouts and encapsulation strategies with advanced materials to ensure efficient integration of the project solutions.
For its part, the Digital Health Unit ensures the implementation of the SmILE demonstrators in all use cases. Its task includes the validation of the solutions through co-design with the different actors involved, as well as the secure and complete management of the data to ensure its correct treatment and use within the current regulatory framework.
The project has a duration of 60 months and is coordinated by Fraunhofer Gesellschaft with the participation of 25 institutions from 12 European countries.
