Diagnostic tools and soil remediation techniques so to increase the efficiency of the political and social management of contaminated industrial sites.

SOIL TAKE CARE project main objective is to develop experimental devices and innovative methodologies to achieve rapid, low-cost diagnoses of metal contamination in mining and industrial soils, as well as developing monitoring tools for air and water pollution in mining and industrial sites through the use of economic devices (biocapture) and modeling.

On the other hand, the project aims at improving the development of two types of techniques for remediation of contaminated soils (injection of oxidizing solutions into hydrocarbon contaminated soils and the development of phytoremediation techniques for heavy metals contaminated soils) and identifying, from a socioeconomic study, the strengths, weaknesses and motor elements in society (public administrations, population) that face this contamination.

The project is led by the CNRS and is participated by Eurecat and 6 universities and research centers from the SUDOE area: IRSTEA, the University of Limoges, the Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisboa, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Bordeaux INP and the University of Oviedo.

Eurecat, through its Sustainability Unit, participates in the development of in-vitro methodologies in order to evaluate the bioavailability of metals for the calculation of chemical risk for human health.
