Driving the adaptation of fruit farming to climate change through an intelligent agrivoltaic solution based on digital twins.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n

The TECSOL-FRUT project<\/strong> aims to develop and validate an innovative agrivoltaic solution that integrates agricultural production and renewable energy generation<\/strong> to improve the resilience of fruit crops against the effects of climate change. The initiative promotes the implementation of a photovoltaic system integrated into agricultural farms, supported by a digital twin that enables the maximization of energy production while optimizing crop growing conditions.<\/p>\n

The project addresses the growing challenges faced by the agricultural sector, resulting from disruptions to natural crop cycles and the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as heatwaves, droughts, intense solar radiation, torrential rainfall, and late frosts. In this context, agrivoltaic systems emerge as an innovative alternative for protecting crops and supporting more sustainable agricultural production.<\/p>\n

The developed solution will provide shade to crops, reduce thermal and water stress, decrease water losses through evaporation, and improve protection against adverse weather conditions<\/strong>. At the same time, it will contribute to the decarbonization of the agricultural sector through renewable energy generation and the promotion of energy self-consumption models.<\/p>\n

To validate this approach, TECSOL-FRUT will incorporate an advanced monitoring infrastructure based on field sensors, satellite imagery, meteorological data, and artificial intelligence models. All this information will be integrated into a digital twin of the agrivoltaic system, enabling the simulation of different scenarios, the prediction of crop and photovoltaic system performance, and real-time decision support.<\/p>\n

Eurecat<\/strong> participates in the project by contributing expertise in artificial intelligence, energy simulation, and digital modelling. The Applied Artificial Intelligence Unit<\/strong><\/a> develops predictive models to analyze the impact of the photovoltaic installation on crops and leads the development of the digital twin. The Waste, Energy and Environmental Impact Unit<\/strong> <\/a>is responsible for simulating electricity generation and the thermal behaviour of the system. In addition, Eurecat’s Multimedia Technologies Unit<\/strong><\/a> contributes to the development of a three-dimensional digital model that will enable the comprehensive representation and analysis of the installation’s operation.<\/p>\n

TECSOL-FRUT combines technological innovation, sustainability, and digitalization to advance towards more resilient and efficient agricultural systems, with strong potential for transfer to the agri-food sector and replication in other regions affected by the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>
