New system for the treatment and removal of nitrogen oxide (NOx) from flue gases.<\/strong><\/p>\n

NoNOx<\/strong> develops a new technology for the treatment of nitrogen oxides from industrial emission gases<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Nitrogen oxides (NOx, including NO and NO2<\/sub>) are emitted by combustion processes in many industrial sectors (e.g., energy, thermal waste valorisation and steel industry). In terms of air quality, high emissions of NOx contribute negatively to the ecosystem and human health.<\/p>\n

Currently, industrial NOx emissions are treated by physical-chemical technologies (selective non-catalytic and selective catalytic reduction) that have high operational and capital costs and produce a great environmental impact due to their generated by-products, the consumption of energy and the need for critical raw materials (platinum, rhodium, titanium).<\/p>\n

NoNOx demonstrates a new technology based on a biological process<\/strong>. The main advantages of this alternative over physical-chemical technologies are lower operating cost<\/strong>, lower energy and reagents requirement<\/strong>, easy-to-build reactors<\/strong>, and no generation of secondary pollutants<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This technology will decrease the environmental impact of the industrial combustion processes by improving the sustainability of the flue-gas treatment.<\/p>\n

This project, led by Eurecat\u2019s Water, Air and Soil (WAS)<\/a> Unit, is carried out in collaboration with researchers from the SSR (Smart Sustainable Resources) group of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>
