    Eurecat’s Technology Center (member of Tecnio) has launched the programme “Vicente L\u00f3pez” aimed at promoting the production of doctoral theses in\u00a0its industrial, digital and biotechnological areas, in order to increase scientific knowledge in these fields and foster\u00a0technology transfer to the industry.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Programme:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    The programme offers for 2018 a total of 17\u00a0pre-doctoral contracts for the accomplishment of doctoral theses and with full-time dedication.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Application period:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    The application period is from 1 June to 24 July 2018 (both dates inclusive).\u00a0The selection process will take place between 25 June and 20 July 2018. and first seventeen trainee researchers will join Eurecat on 1 September 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Applicant requirements:<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Applicants must possess an official university undergraduate degree and Master\u2019s degree and\u00a0have completed a minimum of 300 ECTS credits as part of their official university studies, of which at least 60 must have been at Master\u2019s degree level.\u00a0\u00a0Applications are also welcomed from those who are currently enrolled on an official university Master\u2019s degree programme that will enable them to access a doctoral programme in the 2018-2019 academic year.<\/p>\n

    The trainee researchers must reside in Catalonia for the duration of the programme, except for when they embark on study visits to other universities or research centres as part of their doctoral studies.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Dr. Vicente L\u00f3pez<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    This programme is named after Dr. Vicente L\u00f3pez Mart\u00ednez in honour of his contribution to innovation in Catalonia and his tireless work to promote links between universities, technology centres and companies. Vicente L\u00f3pez was not only the founder of the Barcelona Media technology centre, which today forms part of Eurecat; he was also an outstanding researcher, manager and entrepreneur.<\/p>\n<\/div>

    Dr. Vicente L\u00f3pez Biography<\/strong><\/h2>\n

    Vicente L\u00f3pez Mart\u00ednez (1954 – 2012)<\/strong> was a great promoter of innovation in Catalonia betting on applied research based on the model Universities – Technological Centers – Companies. He was the founder of the Barcelona Media Technology Center, which today forms part of Eurecat. Initially, he acted as the General Director and later as Executive Vice President of the Center. He also was Vice President of the Federation of Technology Centers (FEDIT).<\/p>\n

    Graduated in Chemical Sciences, he gained a PhD in Quantum Chemistry from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM). He remained active as a researcher throughout all his professional life, combining this activity with those of manager and entrepreneur. He was a researcher at the California Institute of Technology (CALTECH), a Professor at the Department of Chemical Physics at the UAM, a researcher and later technical director of the Institute of Knowledge Engineering (IIC) of the UAM, professor at UAM\u2019s Department of Computational Sciences and Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) Department of Information Technology and Communications, publishing more than 50 scientific articles.<\/p>\n

    As an entrepreneur and innovator, Vicente created and launched two technology companies for the Prisa group: Proel (electronic publicity) and Inicia Comunicaciones (provider of internet services and portals). Co-founder and later a member of the board of directors of Raditech, a provider of services and research products on the Internet, he was a member of Telef\u00f3nica\u2019s board and founded ImmSound, a provider of immersive sound products, where he acted as CEO and President. Immsound was later acquired by Dolby.<\/p>\n

    Besides being a charismatic person, Vicente possessed a great humanistic sense that he applied in his various activities. He managed Barcelona Media with commitment, vision and constant work from its beginnings and from there he supported and encouraged the Technological Center model as a meeting point between Universities, Research Centers and Companies, a bridge between basic research and industrial applications.<\/p>\n<\/div>
