It enables remote monitoring of the patient\u2019s symptoms and streamlines communication between professionals and the family.<\/p>\n<p>The Jana robot consists of a structure built with 3D printing and a tablet connected to a medical app which allows caregivers to interact with it.<\/p>\n<p>The innovation is currently being tested for six months in a pilot clinical study led by Hospital Sant Joan de D\u00e9u involving ten robots installed in the homes of paediatric patients with severe neurological diseases and palliative care to assess whether the remote monitoring solutions are user-friendly and how satisfied families and healthcare professionals are with them.<\/p>\n<p>The innovation allows \u201cnatural and gamified communication of users with the robot which increases adherence and simplifies monitoring in medical processes,\u201d says Daniel Serrano, director of Eurecat\u2019s Robotics and Automation Unit.<\/p>\n<p>Interaction between robots and patients has been enhanced \u201cby furnishing the robot with facial expressions and body movements in a way that enables it to trigger microbehaviours in specific situations in coordination with the medical app and the conversation with the user,\u201d notes Mag\u00ed Dalmau, head of the Cognitive Robotics Line at Eurecat\u2019s Robotics and Automation Unit.<\/p>\n<p>The Jana robot \u201chas a shape that resembles a person\u2019s body to foster empathy and bonding with the user, make it easier to use and ensure its safety and stability,\u201d points out Federica Loizzo, a researcher in Eurecat\u2019s Robotics and Automation Unit.<\/p>\n<p>It has also been designed bearing in mind the desktop robots available on the market as an easily accessible and scalable healthcare solution.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":159352,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[430,2284,743],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-159956","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-autonomous-professional-robotics","category-health","category-press-notes-en"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
