However, there are polyesters synthesised from natural resources such as PLA which are a sustainable alternative to conventional synthetic plastics derived from petroleum.<\/p>\n<p>Although polylactic acid is bio-based, it still has a very long biodegradation time so Eurecat has explored alternatives by altering the PLA\u2019s formulation to speed up its degradation. This process has enabled the Eurecat research team to get synthesised yarns for accelerated biodegradation.<\/p>\n<p>PLA is a biodegradable plastic made from renewable resources which is widely used in 3D printing.
