{"id":195934,"date":"2026-03-28T10:26:35","date_gmt":"2026-03-28T09:26:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eurecat.org\/coophs-researcher-presents-nanoscale-investigation-of-low-co%e2%82%82-steel-at-the-from-scrap-to-steel-workshop\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T10:28:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T08:28:22","slug":"coophs-researcher-presents-nanoscale-investigation-of-low-co%e2%82%82-steel-at-the-from-scrap-to-steel-workshop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eurecat.org\/en\/coophs-researcher-presents-nanoscale-investigation-of-low-co%e2%82%82-steel-at-the-from-scrap-to-steel-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"COOPHS researcher presents nanoscale investigation of low-CO\u2082 steel at the &#8220;From Scrap to Steel&#8221; workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 fusion-flex-container has-pattern-background has-mask-background nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row fusion-flex-align-items-flex-start fusion-flex-content-wrap\" style=\"max-width:1424.8px;margin-left: calc(-4% \/ 2 );margin-right: calc(-4% \/ 2 );\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-flex-column\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-width-large:100%;--awb-margin-top-large:0px;--awb-spacing-right-large:1.92%;--awb-margin-bottom-large:20px;--awb-spacing-left-large:1.92%;--awb-width-medium:100%;--awb-order-medium:0;--awb-spacing-right-medium:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-medium:1.92%;--awb-width-small:100%;--awb-order-small:0;--awb-spacing-right-small:1.92%;--awb-spacing-left-small:1.92%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-column-has-shadow fusion-flex-justify-content-flex-start fusion-content-layout-column\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p>Chaymaa Boujrouf, Postdoctoral researcher at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.univ-amu.fr\/\">Aix-Marseille University<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.im2np.fr\/en\">IM2NP laboratory<\/a>, presented a poster at the <a href=\"https:\/\/fsts.sciencesconf.org\/\">&#8220;From Scrap to Steel: Addressing the Challenge of Residual Elements in Recycling&#8221;<\/a> workshop, held on 4 March 2026 at the Abbaye des Pr\u00e9montr\u00e9s in Pont-\u00e0-Mousson, France.<\/p>\n<p>Boujrouf&#8217;s poster, entitled <b>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/zenodo.org\/records\/19704785\">Nanoscale investigation of residual element segregation in steels produced through low-CO\u2082 routes,<\/a>&#8221; <\/b>presented findings from her postdoctoral research conducted within the framework of the<a href=\"https:\/\/eurecat.org\/en\/portfolio-items\/coophs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> COOPHS project.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Using Atom Probe Tomography (APT), her work <b>examines the segregation behaviour of residual elements, such as copper, tin, arsenic and phosphorus, at grain boundaries in press-hardened steels produced via the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) route<\/b>, comparing them with conventionally produced steels from the Blast Furnace\u2013Basic Oxygen Furnace (BF\u2013BOF) route.<\/p>\n<p>Results indicate that EAF-based steels exhibit no embrittling segregation of residual elements at grain boundaries, and that their mechanical properties are fully comparable to BOF reference steels.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop<b> brought together more than 90 academic researchers and industry professionals<\/b> to address the scientific, technological and economic challenges posed by residual elements in steel recycling.<\/p>\n<p>IM2NP is a multidisciplinary research unit of more than 300 people at Aix-Marseille University, working at the confluence of physics, chemistry and microelectronics.<\/p>\n<p>Within COOPHS, the IM2NP team uses Atom Probe Tomography to quantify segregation at prior austenitic grain boundaries and Fe\/Al coating\u2013substrate interfaces and develops multiscale models integrating element interactions to predict local residual element distributions in grain boundary vicinity.
