Digitalization and the circular economy<\/strong> are two trends that will play a major role in the future of water management<\/strong>. According to the <\/span>Eurecat<\/a><\/span> technology centre (a member of Tecnio), in this complex scenario new technologies will be vital to promoting recycling, encouraging more efficient water use and combating scarcity, in an effort to control the increasingly adverse effects of climate change and a growing demand for water. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDigitalization and smart water management represent a paradigm shift for processes related to the efficient use of water, recycling, and minimizing water-related energy consumption<\/strong>\u201d, explained Miquel Rovira and Gabriel Anzaldi, the directors of Eurecat\u2019s Sustainability Unit and Smart Management Systems Unit, respectively. \u201cNew digital technologies will play a key role in increasing quality and productivity and in ensuring sustainability\u201d, they added.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn the coming years, it will be vital to use water intelligently: in other words, to apply the concepts of the circular economy to the water industry. Recycling will therefore become key, taking into account the fact that our multiple uses of water will require a range of different qualities, which in turn presents new challenges with regard to monitoring water composition and potential associated risks, such as microbiological contamination\u201d, Rovira continued.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor water in particular we have to take into account the relationship between \u2013 and the complexity of \u2013 the different value chains across the whole cycle, from capture, treatment and distribution through to consumption, waste-water management and recycling<\/strong>. This level of complexity must also be reflected in our information structures, in order to obtain reliable data that enables secure and effective digital transformation\u201d, Anzaldi concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
