The NewAIMS project took part in the event \u201cThe steel challenge<\/em><\/strong><\/a>\u201d as part of the Science and Technology Week<\/strong><\/a> organised by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)<\/a>, running from November 4th<\/sup>-17th<\/sup>, 2024, across Spain.<\/p>\n

In this activity, targeted to high-school students, the attendees received a talk where they were told the context and motivation of the most ambitious projects participated by the Spanish National Center for Metallurgical Research (CENIM-CSIC).<\/p>\n

Then, Ana Santana<\/strong>, project partner and PhD student from CENIM-CSIC, presented the challenges of additive manufacturing in steels in the context of the NewAIMS<\/a> project. In particular, the students gained insights into selecting different steel compositions based on their applications.<\/p>\n

They were then introduced to the fabrication process and how manufacturing is carried out using additive manufacturing technology, with an emphasis on its most well-known advantages compared to conventional methods.<\/p>\n

Following this, the students engaged in a competitive game designed to test their understanding throughout different stations set up around the CENIM building, simulating a real steel manufacturing plant. The students were highly interactive and competitive, demonstrating the success of this activity\u2019s goal to promote science to this upcoming generation.<\/p>\n

The three sessions of the event, held on November 7th<\/sup>, 8th<\/sup> and 15th<\/sup>, counted with the participation of 95 students<\/strong> from the high schools Alpaj\u00e9s (Aranjuez), Gran Capit\u00e1n, Reggio (Madrid) and Marie Curie (Loeches).<\/p>\n<\/div>

The Science and Technology Week is the most important initiative for scientific dissemination in many autonomous communities in Spain.<\/p>\n
