This edition received over 2,000 visitors, especially families, and \u00a0provided them with insights into research projects carried out in ALBA Synchrotron and the technology behind it.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Among the highlights of the day was a stand dedicated to showcasing four collaborative projects currently being carried out by Eurecat and the ALBA Synchrotron. These projects included the Horizon Europe CISMA project and three major RFCS (Research Fund for Coal and Steel) projects:\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eurecat.org\/en\/portfolio-items\/coophs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">COOPHS<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eurecat.org\/en\/portfolio-items\/h2form3g\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">H2FORM3G<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eurecat.org\/en\/portfolio-items\/sup3rform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Sup3rForm<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The stand, led by <strong>ALBA Synchrotron's Methodology group<\/strong>, focused on how Eurecat and ALBA use advanced technology to tackle sustainability challenges in the steel industry, particularly around reducing CO\u2082 emissions. Under this theme, the team explained their involvement in international EU projects, in partnership with steel producers, automotive manufacturers, and appliance makers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_94703\" style=\"width: 324px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-94703\" class=\"wp-image-94703\" src=\"https:\/\/cisma-project.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/IMG-20250527-WA0000-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"ALBA Open Day 2025\" width=\"314\" height=\"419\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-94703\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Credit by Sergio Ruiz \/ Images provided by ALBA Synchrotron<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To make science more accessible, the team <strong>demonstrated key metallurgical concepts<\/strong> such as grain structures, phase transformations, deformation, and the measurement techniques applied in real-world experiments. Visitors, and particularly children, were invited to participate in hands-on activities, including simulated tensile tests and a Charpy-style impact test using clay and specially designed tools. This interactive setup effectively illustrated how different metals behave under stress, enhancing public understanding of material performance in practical applications.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At the center of the display was a<strong>\u202fB-PILLAR<\/strong> demonstrator from the <strong>COOPHS<\/strong> project, an automotive component designed to protect passengers during crashes by absorbing energy and minimizing deformation. This part exemplifies the potential of hot-stamped Boron Steel made from post-consumer steel scrap, highlighting the projects' focus on sustainable and high-performance materials.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cells.es\/en\/public\/news\/nearly-2-000-visitors-step-inside-alba\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>ALBA Open Day 2025<\/strong><\/a> offered a unique opportunity to connect the public with cutting-edge materials research and to spotlight Eurecat and ALBA Synchrotron's
