Francisca G. Caballero<\/strong>, Research Professor at the Spanish National Centre for Metallurgical Research (CENIM-CSIC)<\/a>, took part in the 9th<\/sup>\u00a0 International Conference on Solid-Solid Phase Transformations in Inorganic Materials (PTM2025)<\/strong><\/a>, held on July 7-11, in Delft (The Netherlands).<\/p>\n

On July 7, she held the presentation \u201cSolid-state phase transformations during metal additive manufacturing: A case study on laser powder bed fusion of tool steels<\/em><\/strong>\u201d, which was included in a session chaired by Maria Santofimia.<\/p>\n

The talk shared the results of a NewAIMS investigation aimed at understanding phase-transformation in additively made tool steels during the LPBF process<\/strong> and subsequent post-heat treatments.<\/p>\n

In this study, phase formation in the solid state and during solidification was investigated. During AM processes, the impact of cooling rates, thermal gradients, and thermal cycling was considered. Particular focus was paid to demonstrating the potential effects of the solute distribution during solidification on the phase transitions.<\/p>\n<\/div>
