Se trata de pol\u00edmeros persistentes y de medida reducida que afectan a los ecosistemas y la salud humana, ya que pueden entrar en las cadenas alimentarias\u201d, explica el jefe de L\u00ednea de estudios precl\u00ednicos de la Unidad de Nutrici\u00f3n y Salud de Eurecat, Roger Marin\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan datos recientes de un estudio realizado por la organizaci\u00f3n WWF, Espa\u00f1a es el segundo pa\u00eds que m\u00e1s pl\u00e1sticos vierte al Mediterr\u00e1neo. Pere Puigb\u00f2, investigador de la Universitat Aut\u00f2noma de Barcelona, que participa en el proyecto, comenta que \u201cla contaminaci\u00f3n por micropl\u00e1sticos ha aumentado exponencialmente, especialmente de materiales como el polietileno, poliestireno, polipropileno o PVC, que de manera natural se degradan muy lentamente\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Por este motivo, el proyecto \u201caporta una v\u00eda innovadora basada en la identificaci\u00f3n y caracterizaci\u00f3n de microorganismos que se desarrollan alrededor de estos pl\u00e1sticos, combinando investigaci\u00f3n microbiol\u00f3gica y bioinform\u00e1tica, para abordar este reto ambiental global\u201d, apunta la directora de la Unidad de Nutrici\u00f3n y Salud de Eurecat, Sara G\u00f3mez.<\/p>\n<p>En el marco de\u00a0MicroWorld\u00a0Puertos\u00a0tambi\u00e9n se eval\u00faa la toxicidad de los pl\u00e1sticos mediante estudios experimentales <em>in vitro<\/em>, con el objetivo de reducir la contaminaci\u00f3n marina y avanzar hacia un modelo de puerto m\u00e1s sostenible e innovador. En este sentido, la Unidad de Nutrici\u00f3n y Salud de\u00a0Eurecat\u00a0utiliza modelos experimentales <em>in vivo<\/em> para evaluar los efectos de micropl\u00e1sticos y nanopl\u00e1sticos sobre la salud.<\/p>\n<p>El proyecto ha sido seleccionado en la \u00faltima convocatoria de ideas de Puertos 4.0, el fondo de capital promovido por\u00a0Puertos\u00a0del\u00a0Estado, para fomentar la innovaci\u00f3n abierta en el \u00e1mbito log\u00edstico-portuario.
