The NewAIMS project welcomed 1st-year Baccalaureate students of Technology and Engineering from IES Guadarrama to the CENIM-CSIC facilities for a dedicated session on sustainable metallurgy.

The visit included a series of technical lectures focusing on the decarbonisation of the steel industry and the vital role of steel in modern society. A significant portion of the session was dedicated to additive manufacturing and the application of machine learning within metallurgy, highlighting how these technologies are transforming industrial production.

Representing the NewAIMS project, Guillermo Larrosa delivered an in-depth introduction to the project’s motivations, core objectives, and strategic importance in the field of advanced manufacturing. After the theoretical sessions, the students toured the Fab3D additive manufacturing laboratory, as well as the metallography and mechanical testing facilities, gaining practical insight into the research environment.
