On 5 March, ACCIONA took part in the Tecnoaqua technical conference on water distribution and treatment, titled “Advanced management of emerging contaminants”. The event focused on the full chain of emerging contaminants (CECs), from detection and monitoring to advanced (quaternary) treatment solutions.
Organised within the water sector knowledge platform Tecnoaqua, the session brough together leading experts to discuss the latest technological and analytical developments addressing water quality challenges.
During the conference, Helena Pérez del Pulgar, representing ACCIONA delivered the presentation “Monitoring of emerging contaminants. Case study: LIFE PRISTINE project”. The talk focused on the analytical and monitoring dimension of the project, highlighting the main methodological challenges encountered during the monitoring campaign. These included matrix effects, limits of quantification, and sample stability, key factors that significantly influence the reliability of trace-level contaminant analysis.
The presentation also introduced the objectives and technological approach of the LIFE PRISTINE project, which proposes an integrated solution based on three complementary technologies: nanofiltration, advanced oxidation processes (AOP) and adsorbent materials. This combined treatment train is designed to effectively remove emerging contaminants from both wastewater and drinking water streams.
The participation of ACCIONA in the Tecnoaqua conference highlights the importance of combining advanced analytical methods with innovative treatment technologies to address emerging contaminants in water systems. The LIFE PRISTINE project continues to contribute valuable knowledge and practical solutions for improving water quality and environmental protection.
