On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, NewAIMS joined an initiative in the Spanish town of Calzada de Calatrava to inspire young minds in the field of metallurgy.

Hosted at El Silo and organised by the Centro de la Mujer, this engaging activity brought together 4th-year secondary education and 1st-year baccalaureate students from IES Eduardo Valencia, turning them into apprentice metallurgists for a day.

Guided by CENIM-CSIC researchers, the students participated in a science-based treasure hunt, where they worked in teams to solve challenges, puzzles, and scientific riddles.

Through this interactive experience, they discovered key raw materials and explored how steel components are manufactured, gaining hands-on insight into the fascinating world of metallurgy.

This initiative aligns with NewAIMS’ mission to promote sustainable and innovative metallurgy while encouraging young women to pursue careers in STEM.
