Join the GIANCE Training session on September 25 at GRAPHENE Week in Vicenza, Italy.

Green hydrogen technologies and the role of graphene

Green hydrogen consists of hydrogen produced by water electrolysis that is powered by renewable energy sources. Currently, green hydrogen represents less than 1% of the global hydrogen produced, attributed to the relatively high costs and scarcity of the required materials associated with water electrolysis. Graphene and graphene related materials (GRMs) demonstrate high electronic conductivity, great stability and high specific surface area, all of which are essential properties for water electrolysis materials. GRMs can be used in distinct components of a water electrolysis cell, e.g. catalyst support or membrane filler.

In this training session, Diogo Miguel García and Bruno Pinto from the Functional Printing and Integrated Systems Unit of Eurecat will provide a general introduction to the different water electrolysis technologies and their current material requirements, followed by showcasing the latest advancements and outlook of graphene and GRMs in the field of water electrolysis, identifying potential strategies to design high performance graphene-based electrolysis materials, highlighting the promising capabilities of these 2D material.
