    We are glad to present the 2nd edition of Giga Casting, the Revolution of Injection Die Casting seminar. Born as an initiative of the Eurecat Technology Center with the aim of promoting knowledge and dissemination of scientific advances in this area.
    Since the last edition that took place in 2018, innovation, new knowledge achievements and the rapid development of technologies have grown exponentially. Their correct application in each sector is crucial for its own evelution.
    On this second edition, the best experts and professionals in the field are gathered to offer, share and discuss all these developments to the professionals attending the event so that they can implement it in their current or future projects. The goal is to guarantee the contstant evolution of  injection die casting.

    Prof. FRANCO BONOLLO

    UNIVERSITY OF PADOVA
    Franco Bonollo is full Professor of Metallurgy at Padova University. Since 2018, he is President of the School of Engineering (38 Bachelor and Master programs managed, 16.000 students, 350 professors).
    His scientific activity is focussed on light alloys, foundry processes, innovative welding techniques. He authored more than 200 scientific and technical papers and 4 books.
    In the frame of EU projects, he has been:
    • Scientific Coordinator of Leonardo Projects COPROFOUND (Numerical simulation of Foundry Processes) and METRO (Online Metallurgy courses),
    • Scientific Manager of NADIA (New automotive components by light alloys, 2006-2010)
    • Coordinator of StaCast (new Standards for Aluminium alloys, 2012-2014)
    • Scientific Manager of MUSIC (process control of High Pressure Die Casting, 2012-2016)
    • WP leader in SALEMA (Development of sustainable Aluminium alloys, 2021-2024)
    He is Scientific Coordinator of SINFONET (Smart and INnovative FOundry NETwork), involving 60 companies of Regione Veneto working in Aluminium, Cast Iron and Steel foundry production.
    He manages Padova University participation to EIT-RM, and coordinated of Education Projects 4L-Alloys, RAIDMAP, DigiEduHack, MILLE
    Since 2022, he is President of iNEST, the Ecosystem of Innovation supported by Next Generation EU, grouping 11 Universities and Research Institutions, managing multi-disciplinary R&D and Education Programs.

    His dedication to advancing industry practices has made him a respected leader in his field.

    Ibon Azkona Villaverde has a degree in Physical Sciences from the Autonomous University of Madrid, specializing in Optics and Structure of Matter. After further specialization in ceramic materials and hard metals for tools during his research period at the CEIT (Center for Technical Studies and Research of Gipuzkoa), he obtained a doctorate in Sciences from the University of Navarra. His doctoral thesis was awarded by the EPMA as the best doctoral thesis in 2002. Since 2002 he joined as director of R&D at Metal Estalki S. L., where his professional work has been based on the development of processes and products, including the research of new coatings. Among these, it is worth highlighting a bactericidal coating patented in 2019 or the development of the Astro Black(r) coating selected by the European Space Agency for the thermal protection of the Solar Orbiter project probe. He has also prepared or participated in the writing of dozens of technical publications and several presentations at conferences. He has also been responsible for promoting or participating in more than 20 projects financed by the Basque Government, the central government or the European Union.
    Since 2002 he joined the company Metal Estalki S. L. as R&D director. His professional activity has been based on the development of processes and products for Metal Estalki, S. L., including research into new coatings.     TOMÁS BALDI

    Poduction, quality and projects manager.
    GRUPAL ART
    He is an energy engineer, although he later became a materials engineer. After completing his master's degree, he embarked on the adventure of a doctorate, in which he researched plastic microinjection, the injection capacity of micro- and nano-textured motifs and the effects of these textures on the surface properties of the final piece.
    In the last stage of the doctorate he entered the company Grupal Art in which he has been growing for 3 years in which he has been working. At Grupal Art he started as head of the laboratory where they analyzed the raw material, mainly aluminum shavings, and the finished product, aluminum ingot, for subsequent validation.
    He is currently responsible for manufacturing at Grupal Art and responsible for research projects. Among the projects developed are the REVaMP project, Adaptation of equipment and processes to the variability in the supply of raw materials and their efficient use in metal production processes, and the VIVALDI project, Valorization of ceramic and metal waste through dust generation for additive manufacturing and other high added value applications, both completed and in collaboration with Eurecat.

    Carlo Cortinovis is Haitian PF Italy die casting sales manager. He has a degree in industrial economics a solid background in Sales and Marketing in the industrial field.
    He has been in sales for over 20 years with sales experience in Europe, North America, Middle east, Asia and Africa. He embraced different industries including automotive, industrial automation and machine manufacturing. He recently joined Haitian with the main task to develop the European market.

    NÚRIA CUADRADO LAFOZ

    Responsible for the Tribology research line (Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit)

    Doctor in Materials Science and Engineering since 2013, she has a degree in Materials Physics and Engineering. She is currently responsible for the Tribology research line of the Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit of the Eurecat technology center. She also works as an associate professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the UPC – EEBE (Barcelona East School of Engineering). He has extensive experience in the field of tribology and lubrication, a field where he has worked on numerous projects at both a national and European level. He has worked in the field of microencapsulation of additives for lubrication, the determination and optimization of wear mechanisms for different types of industries (mining, railway, injection casting, machining, forming), as well as in the monitoring of sensors for prediction . of wear in machining tools. She is an expert in nano- and micromechanical characterization (nanoindentation, coatings, surface integrity), as well as in advanced microstructural characterization fields in which she has worked on numerous national and European projects. Author and co-author of 40 contributions to indexed scientific journals and participation in conferences, as well as participation in a chapter of a scientific book.

    MANEL DA SILVA

    Responsable de la Línea de Investigación en Aleaciones Ligeras
    EURECAT
    Doctor in Materials Science from the University of Navarra in 2006. Researcher at ASCAMM (currently EURECAT) since 2008 and currently responsible for the Light Alloys Research Line within the Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit of EURECAT. He has more than 20 years of experience working on research projects related to high pressure casting and aluminum alloy processing at CEIT, CURAL (University of Quebec), ASCAMM and EURECAT. He has participated in 12 European projects, being technical director of 4 of them, in addition to numerous national projects. Author and co-author of 17 articles in indexed scientific journals and more than 20 communications at national and international conferences.

    FEDERICO DI GIOVANNI

    Federico started his career in the die casting in 2015. At the beginning he was marketing team leader in IECI. After three years he became USA Sales Manager and in 2021 Sales and Marketing Director of IECI Group. IECI has more than quadrupled its turnover and sales over the past 10 years, differentiating its product lines and offering all-round solutions for process cooling and heating. Today IECI is a leading company in the field of die casting temperature controller and has designed, developed, produced and installed temperature control systems on 20 GIGA/MEGA casting machines over 6000 tons in three continents.

    MARTIN LUTZ

    Born in 1962, started his professional career as a designer of assembly systems and special machines. He has been working in sales since 1998, initially for assembly lines for steering systems, combustion engines and gearboxes, and later for electric motors and vehicle batteries for leading machine builders in Germany. Sales Director at Wollin since 2018 and responsible for global sales.

    MARTÍN SOLINA

    Mr. Ruggero Zambelli’s professional career started in 1987 at Raffmetal when he was appointed Manager of the Foundry Alloying Department. Quickly demonstrating significant skills, he took on the role of Head of Quality, Quality Management System, and Customer Service from 1990 to 2015. During this time, he led the company to higher standards, improving processes and ensuring maximum customer satisfaction.
    From 2015 to 2023, Ruggero expanded his responsibilities by assuming the role of Head of Quality, Customer Service, and Efficiency Improvement of the Production Process.
    Currently, Mr. Zambelli holds the position of Head of the Quality Department, Alloys Development & Process Manager, continuing to guide the company towards innovation and operational excellence.
    He is also an active member of European Aluminium, particularly in the Standard Committee, the Automotive & Transport Division, and the Recycling Division.
    In recent years, he has been the Raffmetal representative for two significant European projects funded by the Horizon 2020 program: SALEMA and ZEVRA.
