The students and the “Technology and Engineering” teacher from the 1st year of high school at IES Guadarrama visited CENIM-CSIC on November 2nd, 2023, to enjoy a day on “Sustainable metallurgy for a modern society”.

During the day, Ana Santana, partner from NewAIMS, presented the project to the students and explained what it is about, why it is important or the expected benefits.

Moreover, the students enjoyed other talks about topics like steel production and its importance in society, the decarbonization of the steel industry and what additive manufacturing is and what its advantages are.

Afterwards, the talks the kids visited different CENIM-CSIC facilities: the Fab3D additive manufacturing laboratories, the metallography laboratory and the mechanical testing laboratory.

Within NewAIMS, CENIM-CSIC investigates the relationship among the steel processing, its structure, and its mechanical properties. In this sense, CENIM researches the transformation mechanisms and characterizes the structure of the material from the micro to the nanoscale describing the physics and chemistry that govern the transformation processes of steel and its properties in real conditions of use.
