The GoZeroWaste app, which supports local businesses and waste reduction, and Hortagest, an online shop and manager for the horticulture industry, were the winners at the 8th RuralApps 2021 Awards. This accolade is presented by the Catalan Government’s Ministry of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda (DACC) with the support of the Eurecat technology centre.
The panel of judges, chaired by the Director General for Food, Quality and Agri-food Industries in the DACC and made up of members of the Ministry and Eurecat, reviewed the entries and selected the winners in the award’s two categories. Out of 20 entries submitted this time around, six in the professional category and 14 in the civic category, the prize-winners were:
In the RuralApps Professional category
Hortagest, developed by Gerard Pibernat Piferrer, scooped the prize. The app has been designed specifically for horticultural farmers, producers, experts and businesses that are looking for a quick and effective way to manage their production processes. It makes it possible to integrate the record book, accounting, customer and order management, human resources roles and assignments and marketing via an online shop.
The runner-up was AnaWin360 by Terra Alta Consultoría TIC, which is designed to streamline comprehensive winery management from winemaking to dealing with the regulatory board. It includes features such as vine health monitoring, harvest planning and organisation, record books and job tracking together with tools for traceability and administrative procedures with the regulatory board.
In the RuralApps Civic category
GoZeroWaste, developed by Go Zero Waste, SL, picked up the award. This app supports local businesses and waste reduction through gamification, artificial intelligence and green blockchain. It enables users to learn where to find all the products on their shopping list free of disposable plastic while also putting local traders and producers in touch.
The runner-up was La Piriteca by the GAL Alt Urgell-Cerdanya Consortium. It connects the agri-food industry with the hospitality business in l’Alt Urgell and la Cerdanya by shaping an identity for local food produce and building ties between residents and hospitality industries in both counties and the area’s culinary and local produce associations.
The RuralApps Awards are designed to spur mobile app development in the agri-food industry and rural sector and also recognise enterprises which have developed the two best mobile apps helping to improve the agri-food, forestry and fishing industries and make them more accessible for the general public.
Over a hundred projects have been entered for the RuralApps Awards over the years featuring innovative apps which play a part in unlocking the digital transformation of the agri-food, forestry and fisheries industries.
