In May, the Eurecat technology centre is to open a health centre at its Cerdanyola site to expand its nutrition and health clinical studies addressing nutritional intervention and health promotion for agri-food and biotechnology businesses specialising in nutraceutical and nutricosmetic products along with research projects.

“The new health centre Eurecat is to open at its Cerdanyola site will have a multidisciplinary team of health professionals made up of doctors, nutritionists and nurses, researchers and skilled technicians,” says Sara Gómez, director of the Nutrition and Health Unit. “It will also be equipped with the technology needed to conduct all phases of clinical studies in compliance with regulations and the highest quality standards.”

Eurecat’s new health centre in Cerdanyola “will make it possible to step up activities and the pace of performance of the clinical studies carried out by the Nutrition and Health Unit, which until now were largely at Eurecat’s Reus facility,” adds Antoni Caimari, director of the Biotechnology Area.

This expansion “will also make us more competitive in our services to agri-food, biotech and pharmaceutical firms looking to evaluate the beneficial effects of dietary and supplementation-based interventions with ingredients, nutraceuticals and functional foods, including the bioavailability of their products.”

“Eurecat has significantly increased its clinical trials business in both number and scope, and the new facility to be opened in Cerdanyola is a response to this surge while also broadening participation opportunities for a larger number of people,” points out Anna Crescenti, head of the Clinical Trials Line in the Nutrition and Health Unit.

Partnership with the Reference Laboratory of Catalonia

“Accreditation of the new health centre includes the Reference Laboratory of Catalonia as a referral centre for analysing samples taken from volunteers involved in clinical studies,” adds Anna Crescenti. “This is a significant breakthrough in our partnership and bolsters our ongoing commitment to research.”

The Nutrition and Health Unit is supported by the Reference Laboratory of Catalonia with Bonaventura Ruiz as Laboratory Director. The Reference Laboratory of Catalonia is part of the biomedical diagnosis and imaging network, dibi, a public entity engaged in delivering end-to-end diagnostic services in healthcare.
