Students of the 1st year of high school from IES Guadarrama specialising in technology and engineering visited the facilities of CENIM-CSIC on January 24th, 2025, to enjoy a day on sustainable metallurgy for a modern society.

During the day, Ana Santana, partner from NewAIMS, presented the project to the students and explained what it is about, why it is important, and the expected benefits.

Moreover, the students attended talks on various topics, including steel production and its importance in society, the decarbonisation of the steel industry, and the advantages of additive manufacturing.

After the talks, the students visited different CENIM-CSIC facilities, including additive manufacturing and mechanical testing laboratories.

Within NewAIMS, CENIM-CSIC investigates the relationship among steel processing, its structure, and its mechanical properties. In this sense, CENIM researches the transformation mechanisms and characterizes the structure of the material from the micro to the nanoscale, describing the physics and chemistry that govern the transformation processes of steel and its properties in real conditions of use.
