Logimatic

Logimatic developed a SLAM-based accurate localization and navigation system to automate the port logistics vehicles in order to increase the safety of workers, reduce the margin of error and improve the productivity and operational efficiency of loading and unloading tasks; featuring:

  • Straddle Carrier retrofitting and automation.
  • Autonomous navigation in free space with: obstacle avoidance, replanning, safety stop.
  • Specialized planners: along container navigation.
  • SLAM module (GNSS+lidar+odometry) with container model matcher. Integration with GIS-based Central Management System (CMS) interfaced to Terminal Operating System (TOS).

The Logimatic system is protected against cyberattacks and combines a multi-constellation GNSS receiver with onboard sensors in order to provide a continuous, reliable and accurate estimation of the position and velocity of the platforms. The project results were demonstrated in Thessaloniki’s port, in Greece.

This project is coordinated from Eurecat Robotics and Automation Unit. The scientific contributions focus on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) localization, particularly the implementation of a tight integration technique in cooperation with IRI (CSIC-UPC). This algorithm exploits the advantages of precise GNSS and SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Navigation) in a realistic and harsh scenario such as container terminal at ports.

Logimatic, lasting 36 months, is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 project and counts with the participation of eight partners from Italy, Greece and Spain.
