Eurecat organised a meeting with representatives from the Cluster of the Automotive Industry of Catalonia (CIAC) at the facilities of the centre in Manresa (Spain) on July 10th, 2024.

The purpose of the meeting was to demonstrate the efforts made by Eurecat to promote R+D+I projects, laboratories, materials and manufacturing processes to make the automotive industry more efficient, productive, intelligent and competitive. During the visit, they learned about the tasks carried out by Eurecat, especially at the Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit and the Sustainability Area.

Jaume Pujante, Head of new processes for advanced materials, and David Frómeta, Head of mechanical behaviour at Eurecat, delivered a presentation highlighting different RFCS projects coordinated by the centre: H2FORM3G, COOPHS, Sup3rForm, Crash&Tough, SuPreAM, NewAIMS and CRYSTAL.

The projects presented are aimed at promoting the optimisation of steel mechanical properties improving its use in sectors like the automotive industry, while seeking to achieve a reduction in defects, costs of manufacturing and carbon dioxide emissions carbon in its manufacturing processes, increasing the decarbonisation of the industry.

Eurecat is the first Spanish technology centre in attracting funds from the RFCS European programme, enhancing steel additive manufacturing, boosting lightweight structural applications, and promoting hydrogen embrittlement-resistant steel solutions.

The visit concluded with a tour of Eurecat’s facilities, where they showed the methods of work and materials study in the metals and sustainability laboratories of the leading technology centre in Catalonia and one of the largest private research organisations in southern Europe.
