The Girona Medical Association, Tecnoateneu Vilablareix, Soler & Palau, Prometal3D, Eurecat, Aira Robotics, BTwice, Stimulo, Artein Gaskets, Venfilter, Mini Pleat Filter, Tallers Jaume, Alzamora Packaging and Impremta Pagès have developed a reusable and reconfigurable mask which can be fitted with FFP3 and FFP2 filters delivering utmost protection against coronavirus to ensure the safety of professionals in case of fresh COVID-19 upsurges.
The mask is called ALEU in honour of Dr Dolors Aleu i Riera, the first woman licensed to practice medicine in Spain, and is currently being tested by the AITEX laboratory for approval under the UNE-EN 1827 standard.
Guillem Quintana, Director of Eurecat’s Industrial Business Development and manager of Eurecat Girona, points out that “another added value is that the ALEU mask’s production chain is local due to the companies from various industries which have teamed up selflessly in its development and production to meet this social need outside their business field.”
“We’ve been in contact with countries in Latin America, Africa and Europe to make this mask available to them during the pandemic,” adds Agustí Chico, Director of Eurecat’s Multidisciplinary Laboratories. “It is already being used in Chile as part of an ALEU offshoot project called FreeBreath”.
