At the Vitafoods Europe trade fair in Barcelona, the Eurecat technology centre is presenting advanced molecular technologies and studies for identifying new nutraceutical ingredients and designing new foods, including evaluating their effectiveness in improving health, to food, nutraceutical, nutricosmetic and pharmaceutical businesses.
Eurecat furnishes the industry with technological solutions to assess the beneficial effects of dietary and supplementation-based interventions with ingredients, nutraceuticals and functional foods, including the bioavailability of its products, from preclinical studies providing initial evidence of their effects to validating their efficacy and safety in humans in clinical nutritional intervention studies.
The technology centre has proven expertise in personalised precision nutrition studies, the effects of specific life stages such as menopause, and identifying and validating the potential beneficial impact of probiotics, postbiotics, nutraceuticals and functional foods on mental and cognitive health, weight control, obesity or metabolic disorders, digestive and skin health and more.
Here, Anna Crescenti, head of clinical studies at the Nutrition and Health Unit, presented the Pomaskin study at Vitafoods Europe. Conducted with Euromed, it is a human intervention study evaluating the benefits of Pomanox® P30 on various parameters related to skin ageing such as pigmentation, elasticity, hydration and gut microbiota.
Eurecat “is investing in research into the benefits of precision and personalised nutrition, ingredients, nutraceuticals, functional foods and dietary patterns on human health, which it conducts from the initial stages in the laboratory using advanced in vitro and in vivo models to clinical studies of nutritional intervention involving volunteers, to make progress in promoting health and understanding its mechanisms of action through the application of omics sciences,” says Antoni Caimari, director of Eurecat’s Biotechnology Area.
As part of this, Eurecat brings advanced tech solutions and infrastructure to industry to tackle complex challenges that impact on improving life expectancy and quality of life through innovation in prevention and personalised care.
