“The Mobile World Congress has shown that the foundations are in place for major growth across the digital industry and multi-sector support powered by digital transformation,” said the Eurecat, technology centre’s Business Development Director Carles Fradera today.

“The Mobile World Congress has provided the opportunity to meet up again, to create and innovate and to unlock new business opportunities,” pointed out Miquel Rey, Eurecat’s Corporate Director of Business Development. “Even in a time of pandemic the congress is an industry leader, and Eurecat was keen to be there to help get things moving again and also because it strives to be a key player in innovation for Mobile World Congress exhibitors and visitors.”

Building up the start-up community and a mature business model

MWC has confirmed “a stronger start-up community and the ecosystem’s heightened activity in backing the establishment and growth of new tech-based firms with a mature business model,” argued Carles Fradera. He stressed that the input of sustained standout value “has been stepped up at the expense of the added-value model to become the leader in this type of business.”

“If we can weather the pandemic, there are excellent prospects for growth and also for MWC 2022,” noted Carles Fradera. He believes that this year’s mobile congress “has brought to the fore a trend which is sure to take hold globally, and that is the Internet for everything and everywhere.”

Digital technologies’ cross-cutting impact on almost all sectors

The convergence of high-speed, low-latency mobile communications with the Internet of Things and smart data management “has a cross-cutting impact on practically all sectors and in professional and domestic settings,” pointed out Miquel Rey.

“From the operating theatre to the car, the kitchen or the large industrial facility, the Internet everywhere and 24×7 smart management are already in place,” he added. This is in a scenario in which “bolstering fixed and mobile terrestrial infrastructures with satellite networks means this Internet everywhere is happening all over the planet.”

Mobile World Congress 2021, the first trade fair where demos can be seen live

The Mobile World Congress has been the “first fair in the industry where you can see demos live rather than virtually,” commented Gemma Batlle, head of ICT Business Development at Eurecat. “You can also meet people or get in touch with start-ups and investors in person and in an impromptu setting such as in a hallway at the MWC or when coming out of a presentation.”

“This kind of innovation spontaneity is crucial. We’ve already seen it at this Mobile World Congress and we expect it to keep growing for Mobile 2022.”

She pointed to “the buzz of ideas and energy in the 4YFN pavilion, where you can see that the tech industry, the entrepreneurial sector in Catalonia and in other regions is constantly evolving and has showcased numerous innovations. The region’s knowledge and technology centres also play a key role in this, including Eurecat which is involved in many of the innovations on display.”
