Sustainability, safety and responsibility are key factors for the future of the tourism industry in the new normal where promotional strategies and measures rooted in these principles and indicators will have to be put in place. That was the message from the experts who took part in ‘The Impact of Implementing Sustainability Measures in Tourism; a new scenario’ online conference held yesterday and today and attended by eighty people.
“There’s no doubt that while sustainability was already important before COVID-19, now responsibility, sustainability and resilience are essential,” said Salvador Anton Clavé, the Director of Eurecat’s Tourism Innovation Department and a professor at Rovira i Virgili University. “At the moment sustainability is crucial for the future of the planet and also for the future of the tourism industry.”
The conference was hosted by the Tourism Innovation Intelligence Laboratory in the Eurecat technology centre’s Tourism Innovation Department and the Tarragona Provincial Council Tourism Board for the Costa Daurada and Terres de l’Ebre. It addressed the impact of using sustainability principles in the tourism industry.
