RECREATE EURECAT

Reliability and effectiveness of integrated alternative water resources management for regional climate change adaption.

The RECREATE project improves the resilience of water supplies and protects the status of natural water resources by facilitating the assessment and inclusion of Alternative Water Resources (AWR) in water management planning for water-scarce regions.

RECREATE will compile existing information and will use existing and newly developed models and tools to support the evidence-based, quantitative assessment of different water management strategies under different socio-economic scenarios and climate change projections.

The project will improve the cost efficiency of selected AWR solutions by demonstrating recent innovations in water treatment, monitoring and management technology.

For this purpose, RECREATE will produce an open-access repository compiling existing knowledge and data on the cost efficiency, climate change adaptation and mitigation potential, regulatory framework, environmental, and health impact of different technological and water management alternatives for AWR use.

This repository will be encoded as an independent module into a Digital Decision Support Framework that, together with three additional modules, will be used for co-creating adaptative pathways for regional water management.

RECREATE will be demonstrated in four regional case studies covering different bio-regions (Mediterranean, Continental, and Atlantic), and water contexts.

Eurecat coordinates RECREATE through its Water, Air and Soil Unit (WAS). The Applied Artificial Intelligence Unit (AAI) leads the design of the RECREATE_WT digital decision-making tool.

The consortium of the project is made up by 11 partners from five European countries.
