A probiotic ingredient for weight control, developed by ADM Biopolis and supported by scientific evidence from studies conducted by the Eurecat technology centre, has been recognised as the Ingredient of the Year at the international NutraIngredients Award in the weight management category.
Called Bifidobacterium lactis BPL1, this probiotic shows efficacy in reducing waist circumference and body fat in the stomach area. Build up of this fat is associated with the onset of metabolic disorders known to be related with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, such as insulin resistance, high blood pressure and chronic low-grade inflammation.
Studies have shown that the ingredient works both alive and heat-treated, and this means it can be used in products, whether food or beverages, which are exposed to high temperatures during processing. It can also offer extended shelf life without overdosing in dietary supplements.
