DURALINK project partners presented research developed within the project at EUROCORR 2026, held in Dublin, Ireland, from 6 to 10 September 2026. EUROCORR is the annual congress of the European Federation of Corrosion and this year was held under the theme “Investing in our future: corrosion challenges for green technologies.”

Two contributions involving DURALINK partners highlighted ongoing research into the development and assessment of thermal-sprayed protective coatings for steel structures operating in demanding marine environments.

On 8 September, Marie Minola from the Institut de la Corrosion presented “Corrosion resistance evaluation of different thermal spray coating composition for offshore wind turbine structure applications” during the Marine Corrosion session. The work, co-authored by researchers from the Institut de la Corrosion, ArcelorMittal Global R&D (OCAS N.V.) and GRILLO Zinc Metals, examined thermal-spray coating solutions for offshore wind turbine structures.

Later the same day, DURALINK project coordinator Amadeu Concustell from Eurecat presented the work “Tribocorrosion Behaviour of Arc-Sprayed ZnAl Coatings on High Strength Steel for Offshore Applications,” as part of the Tribocorrosion session.

The work was presented by Concustell on behalf of researchers from Eurecat’s Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit and GRILLO Zinc Metals. It addressed the behaviour of zinc-aluminium (ZnAl) coatings developed to protect high-strength steels exposed to demanding offshore conditions.

Within DURALINK, thermal-sprayed ZnAl coatings are being developed and tested for the protection of steel substructures and high-strength steel chains used in offshore applications. The study presented at EUROCORR focused on their corrosion and tribocorrosion performance under submerged conditions, contributing to the project’s work on improving the durability of components for offshore renewable energy infrastructure.

Participation in EUROCORR provided an opportunity to share DURALINK’s latest research with the international corrosion community and exchange knowledge with specialists working on tribocorrosion, materials protection and technologies for demanding marine environments.
