The Eurecat technology centre, a member of Tecnio, is taking part in the European GreenCharge project, which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to promote electro-mobility in Barcelona. The project aims to improve access to electric vehicles and related infrastructure in order to enable more sustainable and economical charging. It also aims to increase the number of electric vehicle users by 10-30% within the space of three years.
The key objectives of the project, which will involve demonstrator vehicles in the cities of Barcelona, Oslo and Bremen, consist of developing tools and services to improve the user experience of electric vehicles; minimizing their impact on the power distribution grid; promoting the use of energy from renewable sources; developing viable business models related to electro-mobility; and producing guidelines to deal with the mass roll-out of electric vehicles satisfactorily.
To help achieve these objectives, Eurecat will work on developing AI algorithms to intelligently manage the electrical charge, as well as making the charging stations at several of its facilities available for reservation. It will also study how a battery’s health is affected by the way it is charged and discharged, with the aim of maximizing the battery’s useful life and enabling more accurate estimates of the vehicle’s range.
