CV Médica has struck a deal with start-up Treematernity to manufacture, market and distribute the Belty single-use foetal monitoring belt developed in conjunction with the Eurecat technology centre. The belt is now available to all hospitals in Spain.

CV Médica specialises in manufacturing antiseptic and cosmetic products and medical devices for hospital, geriatric and pharmaceutical settings. It has a 30-year track record in the industry and a footprint in over 35 countries. Treematernity is a Rovira i Virgili University (URV) start-up set up by Montse Gasparín, Vanessa Sanz and Mabel Gendre, three midwives working at Verge de la Cinta Hospital in Tortosa who have developed these new obstetrics belts in partnership with Eurecat.

The innovation consists of a new generation of single-use, hygienic obstetric belts suitable for attaching foetal transducers during foetal monitoring procedures which record foetal heart rate (FHR) and uterine dynamics (UD) prior to or during delivery.

Besides helping to cut handling and cleaning costs and make best use of healthcare professionals’ time, they also step up safety for these healthcare professionals and pregnant women and thus reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infection and provide protection against Covid-19.

The Belty belt is compatible with any transducer on the market, can be adjusted to all required measurements of mothers and is suitable for monitoring in water because it is waterproof and hardwearing. It also prevents marks on and injuries to patients which enhances their experience and affords them the comfort they need.

The Belty belt has won numerous awards and accolades including from Tarragona Provincial Council, the Barcelona and Tarragona Colleges of Nurses and the Philips-FAME award for innovation in midwifery care practices.

Belty has been tested by over 20 hospitals where feedback has been overwhelmingly positive in terms of product quality and usability. The Belty dispenser box containing 50 belts is made of 100 percent recyclable material.
