The Eurecat technology centre has contributed to the ‘Initiatives for Tourism Resilience’ e-book brought out by the Tourism Technology Centres Group and presented at the #techYdestino forum at FITURTECHY. It showcases initiatives and projects they have been working on in response to the acute crisis brought about by Covid-19 and which are designed to restart the tourism industry, a sector where public-private partnership has become more essential than ever.

In the e-book Eurecat outlines the design of a technological platform for destinations on the Costa Daurada and in Terres de l’Ebre which taps smart systems to suggest experiences to visiting families based on their needs and taking into consideration aspects such as the age of the children, means of transport and interests. It has been developed as part of the PECT TurisTIC in Family Project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Tarragona Provincial Council.

Meanwhile Andalucía Lab presents its Technological Talent Attraction Programme which supports Andalusian tourism and technology businesses in recruiting talent and retaining specialists in specific areas.

Invat·tur also showcases its ‘Mediterranean Live and Safe’ platform, an intelligence system which furnishes information about the key indicators of the evolution of Covid-19 and tourism options in destinations in the Region of Valencia.

The Vicomtech technology centre underlines the significance of data governance in the current and future tourism ecosystem along with the European Data Strategy and setting up ‘common data spaces’ which will enable all players in the ecosystem to share relevant information to enable destinations to rise to today’s challenges and become more resilient.

Tecnalia stresses the role of technologies such as blockchain in making it easier to identify travellers throughout the travel process while also allowing direct contact between provider and customer. It further points to the role of tourism intelligence systems as a technological innovation lever in the industry’s upturn and sustainability.

In turn, Turistec displays the solutions of some of its partners including system digitalisation, contactless solutions and booking automation from Altia; the NADIA DTI tourism intelligence tool from Anysolution; the blockchain platform from ClarkeModet; the data intelligence platform from Dingus, and 360º CRM for hotels from Fideltour.

SEGITTUR outlines the Smart Tourism Destination project it has been running for several years to help areas shift to a new, more innovative, digital and sustainable model. It also describes the rollout of the Smart Tourism Destination Network as an instrument to support the industry in today’s uncertain times.

Finally, ITH describes the checklist of measures for hotels it has drawn up in conjunction with CEHAT which lessen hygiene and health hazards due to Covid-19. These recommendations led to two online events (ITH Lab) and setting up an interactive infographic on technologies to drive the recovery of the accommodation sector.

Álvaro Carrillo de Albornoz, Director General of the Tourism Technology Platform – Thinktur, presented the e-book at FITURTECHY where he underlined Thinktur’s role as an ecosystem of technology, goods and service providers in the tourism industry seeking to make it more competitive and build partnerships.

The Tourism Technology Centres Group is made up of Invat·tur, ITREM – Institute of Tourism for the Region of Murcia, Eurecat, Tecnalia, Vicomtech, FIT Canarias, Turistec, Andalucía Lab and the ITH.
