New waste effluent treatment system to convert and recover useful and sustainable resources such as biogas, bio-fertilizers and regenerated water.
The LIFE INFUSION project demonstrates and validates a new wastewater treatment purification system, based on the circular economy concept, which allows to recover sustainable resources such as biogas, regenerated water, nutrients or bio-fertilizers. LIFE INFUSION project has the main objective of improving the current treatment of wastewater from municipal waste treatment, through a series of technological processes that do not destroy the nutrients contained in these waters.
With this innovative solution, which combines various biological treatment and filtration technologies, the project demonstrates the environmental, technical and economic feasibility of recovering valuable resources that can be found in wastewater. To achieve this goal, the technology will be implemented in two pilot plants: at the Europarc2 in Besòs (Montcada i Reixac, Barcelona) and at the Cogersa facilities located in Gijón (Asturias).
Eurecat, through its Waste, Energy and Environmental Impact Unit (WEE), the Water, Air and Soil Unit (WAS) and the Omic Sciences Unit, coordinates and participates in the project, leading the task related to the optimisation of the solution proposed on a laboratory scale.
The consortium of the project LIFE INFUSION also counts with the participation of the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), Aqualia, Cogersa, Ebesa (Ecoparc del Besòs), the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology (IRTA), Detricon and AMIU Genova.
