The Tourist Data System (TDS) project that has the objective of managing an interactive and easy to use digital platform capable of providing the public sector and private companies with a great volume of trustworthy data and in this way, allow them to grasp in the present tourism conjunction, as well as its historical evolution. With this information, it is desired to facilitate the decision-making process and enhance the adaptation to current and future challenges in a key sector for the Catalan economy.

To accomplish this, the TDS hervests tourism information from different sources and analyses it and compiles it in order to generate useful information. This information is made available to the multiple agents that collaborate with the project through an online digital platform where, among others, it is possible to do tailor-made queries and download reports of results.

The TDS project rely on a team of experienced professionals with interdisciplinary knowledge, as well as with the collaboration of tourism management public institutions and private tourism business.

The TDS project contributes to achieving a greater understanding of the state and evolution of the tourism sector in the province of Barcelona and, consequently, promotes its development and better decision-making.

The TDS platform is an innovative tool within the Catalan tourism sector, as it provides quick and easy access to a large volume of current, reliable and rigorously analysed and aggregated tourism data. Furthermore, acces to this data by a large number of public management institutions, as well as private stakeholders, has enabled the creation of a first-class information infraestructure, useful for understanding and cotrolling variations in the tourist sector, a pillar of the country’s economy.

The greater understanding of the tourism context derived from the development of the TDS makes it possible to create more controlled and sustainable tourist destinations, as well as anticipate and create strategies to adapt to the potential impacts of tourism activity.
