3D music, also known as 8D, is booming in the music industry. That’s because it makes it possible to create new sound and immersive effects by playing with the positions of sound in space and its movements in a situation where the measures put in place to curb COVID-19 mean it is hard to access live events.

Adan Garriga, the Eurecat technology centre’s Audiovisual Technology Director, says that the lockdown “has shown that people need to have new experiences and shift everyday experiences to the tech and virtual realm”.

This is where binaural technology “is becoming essential to recreate sound experiences we once had outside the home in new ways of consuming audio at home”, adds Shams Faure, Chief Operating Officer of Metrica, the first professional studio to provide production and mixing of immersive music using the Sfëar technology developed by Eurecat.
