Technology centre Eurecat is coordinating the European Möbius project, which will commit €5.5 million to revamping and driving the publishing industry by co-designing new interactive formats and business models in conjunction with industry businesses and professionals, artists, writers and readers from Spain and all over Europe.

Möbius has 11 partners from four European countries, including Mobile World Capital Barcelona. It seeks to harness the potential of prosumers – consumers who are, in turn, content producers – to bring in “solutions that are appropriate and beneficial for the European publishing industry, one of the largest in the world”, says Patricia Castillo, Möbius coordinator and Head of Unit for European programmes at Eurecat.

“We’re taking the e-book back to square one and starting again”, she adds. “This is part of a reinvention process which is anchored in the growing popularity of audio books and includes the addition of binaural audio technologies developed by Eurecat for an immersive experience”.
