CARMONY EURECAT

Coordinated Action for Responsive Mixed Orchestration and Network Yield.

CARMONY introduces an interlinked orchestration framework for traffic management that integrates governance and business models, continuously refined using innovative simulation technologies with real-world traffic data.

This approach aims to generate credible response plans, guidelines, and decision logics, fostering societal trust. Key stakeholders, including road operators, governments, and traffic managers, are involved from the project’s inception, providing ongoing support. The framework is accessible via smartphone apps and online dashboards, aiding comprehensive traffic management decisions.

CARMONY will be piloted in urban and highway areas in Spain and Luxembourg, focusing on enhancing traffic efficiency, safety, and sustainability, particularly in mixed traffic scenarios involving both manually driven and up to level 4 autonomous vehicles. Long-term simulations will demonstrate the system’s impact, aiming to build trust among society and stakeholders. These simulations include real and problems, such as blockages due to power outages, accidents, green waves for ambulances and firefighters or major floods and fires.

CARMONY anticipates significant improvements in traffic efficiency and sustainability, potentially reducing travel time and traffic jams by 10%, saving European society up to €10 billion and individuals 10-15 hours lifetime annually. The CARMONY project aims to control traffic volumes via orchestrating individuals, based on optimising traffic for everyone and focusing on individual requirements & needs, the orchestrator provides individual suggestions and leaves the final decision always to the human.

Eurecat Consulting Department role is about to conceptualise and refine the Governance and Business Models (WP4 Lead) according to the pilot requirements and the stakeholders and users needs manifested along the execution of the project. This is to ensure that project outcomes are adapted to the local context and then, a elaboration of recommendations for replication activities is going to be published.
