Innovative CO2 capture system for industrial integration in a renewable hydrogen plant.
CO2 CAPTURIL develops an innovative CO2 capture system in methanol reforming, addressing the challenges of sustainable hydrogen production.
Since this process generates significant CO2 emissions, CO2 CAPTURIL proposes an efficient solution based on advanced ionic liquid and porous polysulfone capsules technologies, improving capture capacity and reducing environmental impact compared to conventional methods.
In addition to reducing emissions in hydrogen production, the project validates the versatility of high-purity captured CO2, using it in sectors such as the chemical and food industry. This raw material can be applied in fertiliser production, carbonated beverages and synthetic fuels, promoting a circular economy and sustainability.
CO2 CAPTURIL is structured into three key activities and eight strategic tasks, ensuring the development of modular and scalable solutions. Its interdisciplinary approach involves experts in materials, industrial processes, and energy optimization, ensuring system feasibility. In a context of growing interest in CO2 capture technologies and renewable hydrogen, CO2 CAPTURIL positions itself as a benchmark, driving the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable industrial practices.
This project not only innovates in technology but also strengthens international collaboration and fosters the transition to a more environmentally responsible industry. Its implementation will contribute to emission reduction, job creation, and the development of sustainable solutions with a global impact.
MMM Energy, S.L. leads the production of a high-purity methanol reformer, with applications in sustainable transport, clean energy generation and the manufacturing industry. In parallel, Eurecat, through its Chemical Technology Unit, has validated a CO2 capture system with promising results, laying the groundwork for industrial scaling.
