Development of advanced monitoring algorithms, with the challenge of working with complex, large, heterogeneous and interdependent systems, incorporating aspects such as energy efficiency, environmental impact and security with high resolution, from the data provided by new sensors and actuators.
The Smart Factory project is based on the modelling and optimal operation of machinery and industrial processes, with the aim of increasing the flexibility and adaptation of monitoring and control systems, improving energy efficiency in industry and promoting fault diagnosis and predictive maintenance of industrial plants (health aware control). Thus, the project focuses on three main lines of research, focused on advanced equipment monitoring, connected devices and communications in Industry 4.0.
On the other hand, the models of machines and systems, based on the new trends in processing and artificial intelligence, will allow the introduction of self-analysis and characterization capabilities to inform centralised platforms about current operations data and at the same time, be able to apply optimization algorithms of systems and processes and improve decision making on operations and maintenance. In addition, the project also promotes the improvement of industrial efficiency, understood as the capacity of machines, systems and industrial processes to carry out production tasks while minimizing the necessary resources, materials and energy.
The project is part of the R + D strategy of the Generalitat de Catalunya “RIS3CAT Emerging Communities“, which aims to establish collaborative groups to promote cooperation between reference research centres, take advantage of the knowledge generated and empower research and innovation. The Smart Factor project aims to accelerate the introduction to the market of emerging technologies in the field of Industry 4.0.
Smart Factory counts with the participation of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and Eurecat, through the Waste, Energy and Environmental Impact Unit (WEEI).
